About Punjab Police:

The Police Order of 2002 established the Punjab Police, which operates under the authority of the Police Rules of 1934. The Division of Legal Affairs (Legal Branch), Finance and Welfare, Operations, Training, and Research and Development are among the Central Police Office’s (CPO) branches in Lahore. The branches provide reports to the Inspector General of Police via their Additional Inspectors General of Police. The Inspector General of Police, not the Punjab CPO, has superior authority over the Regional Police Officers.

Instead of the zamindars, who were tasked with police responsibilities, the British government appointed magistrates with dargahs and other subordinate staff. Madras Regulation XI of 1816 entailed the abolition of the Dargah system and the appointment of soldiers to oversee tax and police affairs.

In 1827, Bombay Regulation XII instituted an analogous framework within that municipality. The system of dargahs persisted in Bengal due to the absence of a subordinate revenue organization. Nevertheless, in 1811, a portion of their cognizance powers were revoked, thereby constraining their authority.
