About PMD:
The Aviation Division, which is part of the Cabinet Secretariat, exercises authority over the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), an organization that operates in both scientific and service capacities. The PMD is responsible for providing meteorological services to various interest groups across Pakistan, in addition to supporting numerous public initiatives and activities that require climatic data.
In addition to meteorology, the department provides services in the fields of hydrology, earthquake seismology, and geomagnetism. Under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), PMD serves as the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service of Pakistan, one of the 198 member states. Region #2, alternatively referred to as Regional Association II (RA-II), comprises Pakistan and the Asia-Pacific area. The WMO has designated eight meteorological regions on Earth. The Director General of PMD is the Permanent Representative of Pakistan and Vice President of RA-II.
